2 Awesome Places to See in Baku, Azerbaijan

Baku is Azerbaijan’s capital, and when people call it “the architectural love child of Paris and Dubai”, you have to believe it’s a name that’s well and truly deserved.

We are Roux Luxury Travel and we’ve booked dozens, if not hundreds, of vacations to Azerbaijan for our customers; vacationers who want to take a few weeks off work and enjoy life without worries. Being a full-service travel agency from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, we assure you that the beauty and fascinating structures dotting this country is enough to keep you entranced, but that’s just the beginning.

There’s wine, exotic food and a truly rich and seep history to learn about. There’s so much for you to do here that the options could overwhelm you. We’ll help you out by suggesting a few places you can go see. Kick off your vacation by visiting these 2 great attractions:

· The Old City Walls

There’s nothing great about seeing some walls, right? Wrong. There’s a lot to be appreciative of here. For one, the walls themselves were erected on land that has seen human life since the Paleolithic era. The Old City of Baku is still the most culturally-remarkable place in the entire country, and this is as a result of the diverse peoples that once inhabited it. Go this old city and you’ll still see traces of numerous cultures: Persian, Sasanian, Ottoman, Zoroastrian, Shirvani and Russian.

The city’s defenses still look formidable too; history buffs will especially find it fascinating. Its walls have managed to withstand everything thrown at them since the 12th century. Navigating around them is both interesting and fascinating. You’ll feel as if you’ve been taken back to the days of old. We highly recommend a visit to this historic place.

· The Mud Volcanoes

You can find these volcanoes at the Gobustan National Park, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fact that thousands of vacationers go to see them each year is enough to tell you they’re truly incredible things. It’s arguable if you’ve ever seen anything like them. Bubbling mud volcanoes riddle the field too, as do anthropological sites. The whole place is a sight to behold, and that’s no exaggeration.

Azerbaijan has approximately 300 mud volcanoes on the islands, at the shore and in the sea. To put that in perspective for you, that’s over 30% of the world’s total number of volcanoes all in one place!

The Gobustan National Museum is a great source of information to know more and see ancient fossils, learn about the history of petroglyphs and see what the humans of the Mesolithic era used as tools.

Interested in going there for your holiday yet? You should be. Why not just go and experience all this on your own? Contact Roux Luxury Travels and we’ll get you to this ancient yet beautiful country.
