3 Tips For Vacationing in Algeria

As a full service travel agency in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, it’s not often that we get to talk about destinations like Algeria..but we’re travel agents and every worldy destination is fascinating to us.

Algeria isn't really recognized as a tourist destination, but that does not disqualify it from being the next country to host your vacation. For one, it’s the largest country in Africa. If anything, that alone should be something to pique your interest.

It has a lot more going for it than just size though. There is much you should know about this little-visited nation; facts that give a better insight about the country and what you can expect to see when going there for a vacation.

1. Money Changers

When in Algeria, your international bank card won't really be of much use. It's much better you go there carrying hard cash in dollars or euros-sterling is accepted too. And you don't need to worry about changing your currency to dinar (Algeria currency) because there are people all over the country who offer such services.

You can find them in clothes shops, cigarette shops, even barber shops. We advise you to stick with changing your currency in such places because banks will want much higher cuts for their services.

2. Digital Guides

What’s the best way to navigate around the towns and cities of a foreign land? Utilizing mobile apps to help you find your way. Having internet access in Algeria is not just advisable; it's a necessity, and we don’t mean Wi-Fi.

There is very little Wi-Fi in Algeria, regardless of where you are. Even the hotel you booked might have limited access to it. Coffee shops with working Wi-Fi are also a rarity.

So how do you solve this? A local SIM card can easily handle all your Internet needs. With that, Google Maps and other similar apps can always be accessible. That also saves you the trouble and expenses of hiring a guide. You can also look up train times and currency rates. The latter in particular is very important since you’ll be changing your currency to the dinar.

3. The Train is the Way to Go

Some countries utilize cars as their primary means of transport. In Algeria, trains assume this role. Cars are only a second priority.

The train service is Algeria is very efficient, covering large parts of the country, and the fact you can purchase tickets a day before departure means you can bypass long and unnecessary queues. For long journeys, you have the option of choosing first class, with all the extra comfort.

We’re still yet to talk about Algeria’s deserts and beaches, which is another tourist magnet. But not to worry, because if you want to know more, simply reach out to us here at Roux Luxury Travel in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
