Grenada is a Caribbean country that comprises of a main island, also called Grenada, and smaller surrounding islands. It’s a great place with a rich culture that you should visit so who is planning your trip? We can help you plan it here at Roux Luxury Travels in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Travel planning that suits you is our specialty but, in the meantime, here are some things to expect when you visit Grenada.

· The Language

English is the official language but most people also speak one of two creole languages, one based on English and the other on French. But creole languages also draw on African and Indian heritage.

· Food

Grenada’s national dish, oildown, is a stew consisting of salted meat, breadfruit, vegetables and dumplings steamed in coconut milk. You could also try roti, a type of wrap filled with curried meat or vegetables, which is a popular snack. In recent years, the island has become known for its organic production of cocoa led by the Grenada Chocolate factory so you should try the chocolate too. You should also try the rum locally produced as it is so potent that it is illegal to carry it on a plane. All in all, Grenada is famous for its spices, and you'll find nutmeg used to flavor just about everything, including deliciously fragrant nutmeg ice cream.

· Money

Grenada uses the Eastern Caribbean dollar (EC$ or XCD) but the US dollar is also accepted all over the island. Just note that you will be given change in the native currency and often at a less favorable exchange rate. Credit cards are widely accepted, and if taking travelers’ cheques, we recommend taking them in US dollars.

· Best Time to Visit

How about now? December in Grenada is a little drier and the island has regained its lush and colorful vegetation after the rain. Christmas is a great time to visit, and many people even book a year or more in advance.

· What to Wear

Grenada has tropical weather, so casual cotton clothing is advised. You can pack some fancy wear if you intend to do formal dining and the nights get cold so take a jacket or a wrap. Please note that camouflage clothing is not allowed on anyone in the country, whether adult or child. Items made out of camouflage materials are also not allowed and will be confiscated and not returned.

· Communications

Grenada has a great telecommunication infrastructure and there is good mobile coverage and high-speed internet in main tourist areas. Wi-Fi hotspots are also common.
