How to Pack Small While Traveling Abroad As a Lady

As a full service travel consultant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, I see and hear about every little (and big) travel adventure, mishap and mind blowing experience.  I am also asked questions that travelers know not the answer..like how to and what to pack.  With high baggage fees for checked luggage on most international and domestic flights, a common concern is how to pack so that they can carry on their luggage instead of paying the checked bag fee.

I suggest..pack small.  But let’s face it: packing small is not an innate skill. OK, maybe it is for some, but for most people, packing is the kind of chore that can really, really get on your nerves when you are space and time-pressured.

And when all of this is happening for an international trip, well, things can easily get out of hand.  How to pack small when traveling abroad?  We have some tips for you, so read on and find out more.

  • You don’t need 5 lipsticks, 3 bottles of mini perfume and 4 eyeshadow palettes. You really don’t. Pack the kind of cosmetics you can easily wear with anything – such as one nude lipstick, one small perfume sample (it’s not like you want to spray all of Rome with your perfume!), and one eyeshadow quad containing lighter and darker colors. There, you’ve just saved half of your luggage space!

  • The same goes for clothes too. You only need basics and a couple of accessories to look good – so no need to try and fit your entire wardrobe in a small (or large!) trolley. Pack a pair of jeans that go with anything, lightweight T-shirts and things you can wear on top of them (cardigans don’t need a lot of space and they can keep you cozy and stylish at the same time). Pack a little black dress for those fancy nights out. Pack a pair of ballet shoes or lightweight casual shoes too (and leave home wearing a pair of sporty ones)

  • No need to pack hygiene products. Not only is it very likely that you’ll find soap and shampoo in your hotel room, but there’s a pretty big chance that you’ll find toothpaste and hand cream in Paris too.
