According to USNews, travel is one of the best things you can do for you and your kids overall mental wellbeing. Although traveling is good for you, it can at times be stressful if your babies aren’t prepared for it. Failure to properly prepare your baby before taking him on his first trip can cause you more trouble than you bargained for. On the flip side, babies can also make a trip more fun. Case in point: When they giggle and laugh as you play with them. Or watching their face as they encounter new experiences.

So are there steps you can take that will ensure your baby is prepared for the travel road ahead? Yes! We’ve outlined 6 tips that will help you get your baby ready.

  • Prepare for The Climate: Check the weather before you leave to ensure that your baby is dressed appropriately. Apps like the weather channel app provides key weather information that will help you pack the clothes necessary to buffer against the weather.
  • Bring Their Favorite Toys & Play Kits: Boredom makes children restless. The same applies to babies. So bring their toys along. The toys will comfort the baby and in turn, relieve you. It also gives them a sense of “home” that will keep them feeling secure and less fussy.
  • Carry Enough Baby Food: Little needs to be said about why food is important, and your baby’s feeding should come as a priority when traveling. Ensure to pack enough food for a long plane, train or automobile trip as well as liquids. If you’re traveling via plane, you’ll need to purchase their favorite liquids behind security gates. Most airports have plenty of kid friendly liquids available because they realize that traveling with kids, liquids and TSA check points have caused issues in the past.
  • Extra Clothes & Diapers: Since babies are often unpredictable when it comes to when they’ll have a bowel movement, it’s important to pack extra clothing-especially diapers-for the trip. To avoid being caught unprepared when situations that require an outfit change occur, you are advised to keep extra clothing and diapers close-by.
  • Get A Stroller or Baby Carrier: Some advantages of baby carriers are that they permit you to use your hands for other things while your baby is strapped to your body. They also help keep your baby close to you and they are quite comfortable to wear. Strollers also provide a great storage unit for purses, diaper bags and of course baby. If traveling by plane, don’t worry! You are able to bring strollers through TSA check points just fine and leave them at the bottom of the airplane jetway so that baggage handlers can properly store them. They’ll be available for you to grab as soon as you disembark the plane. Plus, a stroller doesn’t count as a carry-on item so you’re still able to bring babies diaper bag, mobile bassinet and a personal item for yourself.

Babies first trip doesn’t have to be nerve racking. In fact, with a little bit of advance planning, it can bring great joy to your little ones and lasting memories for you.
