Travel Hygiene Tips that You Shouldn’t Ignore

As a full service travel agency in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, we have conversations with our clients all the time on how to stay safe and healthy while traveling. Today, I wanted to write a blog article on how to stay healthy while traveling.

Here are 5 tips on travel hygiene that you should not ignore:

  • Wash your hands – Yes, what your Mom and teachers have been saying for years is true. Washing your hands regularly is the best way to keep yourself healthy. This holds true while traveling for sure. Statistics show that you’re more than 100 times more likely to get a cold while flying than if you’re on the ground. However, soap and water can only be found in the restroom on a plane. Because of this, make sure you take some hand sanitizer with you. One squirt of Purell will do the trick.
  • Keep your breath fresh – Have you ever sat next to someone on an airplane who was a talker and their breath smelled so bad that your eye lashes curled? Although curled lashes are pretty, (lol) it’s not a preferred way to get them. Well, put yourself in the position as the one talking with bad breath. Yuck! Make sure you avoid that stinky smell and bad taste in your mouth by bringing mints or gum (which also helps with clearing your ears during take off and landing). Besides that obvious answer, you can also get a disposable mini-toothbrush for a quick freshen up.
  • Choose the right fabrics to wear – There’s little that’s worse than being too hot or cold while you travel. That’s an easy fix if you show a little bit of forethought. Think layers. Pack a t-shirt or two that are light-weight and wrinkle free. That way you can whip them out if you’re too hot. I also recommend packing other wrinkle-free clothing like button-downs and polyester shirts. What about staying clean while you travel? There are so many little gadgets that can help. One of my favorites is a Tide pen (no, I didn’t get paid to say that. Lol). A quick swipe over that drip of coffee on your shirt or pants and you’re good as new.
  • Wear Deodorant – For goodness sakes, wear some deodorant. If you don’t like deodorant then bring some water free, no rinse body wash. That way you won’t find yourself in a crowd looking at the Taj Mahal making everyone else’s eyes water because the heat has wreaked havoc on your arm pits.
  • Clean your mind – One of the best parts of traveling is being able to freshen up your mind and soul. Try practicing mindfulness and truly enjoying the new sights, sounds and smells that traveling brings. Stop and smell the roses in Japan and taste the purple on those grapes in Tuscany. A clear mind will ensure that your vacation brings you the R&R that you desperately need.
