My husband and I recently took a trip to Puerto Rico with my sister and her two kids, ages 9 and 10. It was our first time traveling with children, and we weren't sure how things would go, but we ended up having a terrific time. One of the magical things about traveling with children is getting to experience everything through their eyes. Seeing their excitement at every little thing we saw made the trip really fun for us! Here's a fun video we made out of some of our photos:

Want to plan a trip like this for your family? Here are some tips:

  1. Stay at a family friendly resort. The Marriott in Condado was perfect for us. Upscale enough for the adults but had a great pool with a slide for the kids.  For the adults, the lobby bar made wonderful cocktails with fresh juices.
  2. Don't overschedule your days. We made sure to allow for plenty of pool and beach time mixed in with exploring.
  3. Don't let the kids dictate the schedule. While it's great to get their input and ideas and make them feel like they have a part in the planning, sometimes the adults have to put their foot down. Had it been up to them, we probably would have skipped the drive to Arecibo for the Camuy Caves and Cueva del Indio, but those ended up being the highlights of the trip, as you'll see in the video.
