3 Things to Know When You’re in Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux (France)

Even from the words up there, you know we’re heading off into French territory. Saint Émilion is a town in the Bordeaux region of France recognized for its full-bodied and deep-colored red wines.

The famous, old and rustic winery, Les Cordeliers, is one of this town’s many attractions. Château Troplong is another winery, and you simply need to see it before leaving Saint Émilion. There are more other wineries scattered all around the town, so if you’re a wine lover, little else needs to be said on why you should take a trip there.

Don’t be distracted by all the things and places to see, though. Go over the tips below because they’ll help you maintain focus and know exactly how to make yourself at home in Saint-Émilion.

· Make that Document

Buying things that you normally wouldn’t find back home are all part of what makes traveling so great. But in this region, if you predict your shopping will exceed 330 Euros, we advise you to prepare a ‘Detaxe’, which is a special document used to reimburse you 13% of the total sum of the purchases you made while in the region.

· No Speak English (or Any Foreign Language, for that Matter)

Don’t be alarmed but the good people of Saint-Émilion may not be well-versed in English. You don’t need to know extensive French; the basics should suffice. As long as you can get your message or point across and communicate, that’s enough.

Just take a French phrase book along or download an app onto your phone for your trip. The more you try to speak French, the more locals will open up to you and smile more often.

· License and Registrations, Please

Do you plan to rent a car during your vacation? You’ll need an internationally-recognized driver’s license for that. It needs to be of international standard.

More than the license, though, you’ll also need to pay security for the car; the sum is often dependent on the model of the car, but the more expensive the car, the higher the security-about 70 Euros is the daily pay rate for renting a car. As your travel agent, though, we’ll help you figure this out.

· Not So Fast, Kid

If you opt to cruise around on a motorcycle instead of a car, and if you intend to bring your kid along for the ride, be aware that children under the age of 12 aren’t permitted to sit in the front seat. Heed this law because breaking it will attract HEAVY fines.
