4 Common Vacation Mistakes To Avoid

It doesn’t matter whether we’re working, cooking or playing a favorite game, we tend to make mistakes.  Rarely though are the mistakes we make costly.  However, when it comes to booking travel arrangements a mistake can mean the difference between spending a night sleeping in the airport if your flight is delayed because the airport is fogged in or easily calling someone and having your flight rebooked.  This is especially important if you have a cruise to catch.

Most travelers don’t realize that when they book online they run into the issue of what to do if something goes wrong while on vacation.  Who do you call if your connecting flight is delayed and you miss your cruise departure?  Or what if you get to your hotel and they don’t have your reservation?  That’s where a travel agent, like myself, comes in handy.  We’re here to help you when things go awry as well as ensure you get the experience that you paid for.

Traveling is one of those things where simple mistakes can be very costly. Whether you are taking a vacation or going on a trip for a business meeting, there are common mistakes that can ruin your travel experience. The great news is that you can avoid most of these mistakes with just a little planning..and booking with a travel agent.

Here we've outlined some of the most common travel mistakes people make, and useful tips to help you avoid them.

  1. Over-packing

This is one travel mistake that has become so pervasive it seems a joke, particularly among first time travelers. The excitement of visiting somewhere new can have you packing more things than you really need.  Over-packing just leads to hauling of luggage and paying exuberant bag fees at the airport.  The solution to this is to only pack essentials. Take out some of the clothes you planned to go with and put them back into the drawer. More times than not, you don’t really need so many pieces of clothing anyways.  Pack essential staple items that you can mix and match to make different outfits.  Underwear though..yeah pack a new pair for every day you’re going to be gone.  (lol)

  1. Not Having Enough Time Between Flights

This is a common mistake for travelers who book their own flights online.  If you are traveling abroad or from Baton Rouge to any coast, there's a huge possibility that you'll take at least two flights or more before getting to your destination.  Because unpredictable conditions could delay your flight, you may find yourself going through events in an airport you're not familiar with. Sometimes you even miss your flight.  What's the solution to this?  Leave at least an 1 hour between your connecting flights.  Of course, a travel agent will ensure this is done anyway.

  1. Not Checking Visa Requirements

It’s truly humiliating to have the airport authorities ask you silly questions and make unruly remarks because you forgot one of your papers. Sometimes, it's even more than remarks and questions.  You may end up in airport jail.  Before making your trip, research widely all of the visa requirements of the country you are traveling to and get them properly arranged in your travel bag before the travel date. By doing this, you can confidently head to the airport knowing all your papers are in check.  We’ll help you with the proper documentation for an international flight as well.

  1. Getting Money Exchanged

Obviously you can't spend money anywhere unless you have their local currency in your pocket. So make sure that you’ve acquired currency that you’ll need in the destination in which you’re traveling.
