- Pack smart. This is not about the size of your luggage only – it is about the fabrics you take with you a swell. Most countries in SE Asia tend to be really humid, so it’s important for you to dress in comfortable organic fabrics if you want to make sure you will feel great no matter what you do and where you go.
- If you choose to take a trip by bus or train, be aware of the fact that you might not have a seat. Most buses leave when they are full too, so it’s always best to be there very early, to make sure you will 1) catch the bus, and 2)get a seat.
- If you want to visit a temple, be sure to take your shoes off when entering the place. It is a sign of grave disrespect not to do this! Also, do make sure to dress appropriately – you might not be religious (or you might not pertain to the local religious denomination), but the people there are, and the last thing you want is to offend anyone in their own country.
- Bring insect repellent. When traveling in South East Asia, flying (and biting) insects are not just annoying – some of them can be actually dangerous. However, this is nothing a bit of insect repellent won’t fix – so make sure to pack some when leaving home.
- Enjoy everything. South East Asia is both fascinating and chaotic. Yes, the traffic feels like an avalanche of unruly tuk-tuks and cars, and yes, there are people everywhere (amazingly friendly too!) – but at the end of the day, it’s all part of the experience. It is part of the local uniqueness and charm!
