5 Islands to Visit in French Polynesia

French Polynesia spans more than 2000 km. It comprises of 100 plus islands in the South Pacific and is as close to paradise as you can get on this planet. Roux Luxury Travels in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is great when it comes to planning your vacations and we’d love to take you to French Polynesia. Any or more of the following 5 Islands is a great place to start.

· Maupiti

Also known as the preserved Island, Maupiti is in many aspects the way Bora Bora used to be before the tourist boom. It is yet to be taken seriously by tourist crowds so you will not find resorts here. Hike up Mount Teurafaatiu for some amazing views, or walk across the lagoon to your very own beach. It doesn’t get more luxurious than that. You can also swim with giant manta rays that frequent the area.

· Fakarava

Also known as the end of the world, Fakarava is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. There is the beach with pink sand and a large coral atoll that makes for great scuba diving. You can also go swimming with sharks in magical spots like the “Alibaba Canyon”.

· Raiatea

Also known as the Sacred Island, Raiatea is famous for its many hiking opportunities and its beautiful waterfalls. One of the rarest flowers in the world- the tiare apetahi grows here too. You can also take a road trip to the most important ancient temple in the entire Polynesian Triangle – the Marae Taputapuatea. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

· Tahiti

We’re sure you’ve heard of the Queen of the Pacific before with her exotic tropical gardens, sand beaches, and waves that attract surfers from all over the world. Check out the exotic Papeete market in the morning, shop for some black pearls in the afternoon and then grab your dinner with the locals in the legendary roulottes food vans of Place Vaiete. Tahiti is where over 70% of the population lives and is French Polynesia’s only real city.

· Bora Bora

Bora Bora is also known as the romantic island and is home to some of the world’s top luxury resorts. Few things beat a day spent in the Bora Bora lagoon, swimming with nurse sharks and feeding some stingrays. You can also head over to Mahira Beach for perfect white sand and a fun day in the sun.
