As a full time travel agent in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, we send travelers all over the world on bucket list type vacations. Since currency exchange is so important, one of the most popular questions that we get asked is which nations take the USD?
So we decided to write a blog article that lists some of the most popular international destinations that take the US dollar with no exchange necessary:
- British Virgin Islands – One of the most beautiful places in the world is the British Virgin Islands. With their pristine beaches and fun culture as reasons why this is a popular destination, another reason is because there’s no currency exchange since the U.S. dollar is their official currency.
- Caribbean Netherlands – The islands of Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius made the USD its official currency not long ago. Adopting the USD as its own in 2011, these three islands became the Caribbean Netherlands as a collective group.
- Barbados – One of my favorite places to visit also brings an amazing exchange rate that makes the USD worth two Barbadian dollars. The only downside is that if you’re paying with USD then you’ll always receive change back in Barbadian bucks. It’s not that bad of a situation though because it gives you money to leave as tips throughout the island.
- Nicaragua – Although the Cordoba (C) is the currency of choice, most places take the USD. Plus, the exchange rate is 30.66 Cs to each USD. Of course, that exchange rate changes often so when we’re booking your trip to Nicaragua then we’ll check it again for you.
- Puerto Rico – Of course as a territory if the United States, Puerto Rico establishments gladly accept the USD. Plus, after the hurricane a few years ago, the island is back up and running. There are some pretty great deals to Puerto Rico because of their desire to get the tourism industry booming again. With easy money handling and great, beach side resorts, Puerto Rico may be your next international destination.
