5 Travel Tips for Colombia

Colombia is a country in South America that is quickly emerging as a top destination to travel to. Roux Luxury Travel in Baton Rouge, Louisiana can help you plan your visit to Colombia and other top luxury destinations in the world. When people think of Colombia, they think cartels, but that has changed as you will see in the following tips for when you travel to Colombia.

· Safety

In times past travelers avoided Colombia due to its ugly association with cartels and violence. That is largely no longer the case and you are sure to get a vibrant country with spectacular scenery, friendly people and a beautiful culture on your visit. In some areas in Bogota, like the sophisticated and electric Zona-T, you get the feel of being in a cosmopolitan city from the developed world. The Medellin Metro which is the public transportation system is a thing of beauty and is amongst the most successful in the world. Safety considerations in this country should be the same as any other unfamiliar city. Stick to a largely crowded place especially on your first trip. You should also refrain from ostentatious displays of wealth and big brands.

· The Weather

The cities of Colombia have a completely different climate from each other so watch out for that. This is mainly because they are located at different altitudes. Bogota has a chilly, autumn-in-NYC like weather all year round, while Medellin is slightly warmer and Cartagena is a sunny, tropical coastal town. Make sure to dress and pack accordingly.

· Transportation

Public transport is the cheapest means to get around in Colombia. Medellin has a great metro system that is highly recommended. Bogota's version of public transport is the Transmilenio - a bus rapid transit.

· The Language

Not a lot of people speak in Colombia speak English but a fair amount of them do. The people are also quite helpful and a piece of paper and pen can help with communication.

· Visa Requirements

Passport holders of countries like the USA, European Union, and Canada, among others, don't require a visa to enter; holders of United States Visa or Schengen Visa (except transit visa), from countries like China, India, Thailand, and Vietnam are also granted visa-free access.
