6 Travel Tips for Americans Travelling to Alberta

Alberta is a great place to go if you are an outdoor person and is just north of Montana. It is home to the majestic Canadian Rocky Mountains and is the largest province in Canada. If you want to go biking, hiking, fishing, skiing, and snowboarding on your vacation, then Alberta is the place for you. Roux Luxury can handle your travel plans to Alberta and make sure that you get there stress-free and in good spirits. For your visit to Alberta, keep the following tips in mind.

· You’ll Need A Passport or Passport Card

This depends on how you plan to arrive. If you’re going by air, you’ll need a passport. If you’ll be entering the country at a land border crossing of which there are six from Montana to Alberta, a U.S. Passport Card which is less expensive can be used.

· You’ll Need to Sign A Declaration Card

If you are arriving by air to Alberta, you’ll need to sign a declaration card stating the purpose of your travel and what you are bringing in with you.

· Travelers with Criminal Records May Be Denied Entry

If you have a criminal record including a drunk driving conviction, you may be denied entry into Canada. You may, however, apply for a waiver of exclusion but it takes several weeks to happen and you’ll pay a processing fee.

· Weapons Are Strictly Controlled

From guns down to knives, weapons are strictly controlled in Canada. Do your research containing what you are bringing in and be ready to declare your firearms using a Non-Resident Firearm Declaration Form. Failure to do so will result in firearms being seized and not returned.

· U.S. Driver’s Licenses Are Valid in Canada

U.S. driver’s license is valid in Canada so if you intend to use a rental, you’ll be fine. The rules are also quite similar except that the distance and speeds are measured in metric units. Road signs are also in English and French which are Canada’s official languages.

· You Can Enjoy Duty-Free Exemptions

If you are an American traveling back to the US you can take as much as you want back with you. A small portion of that can be considered exempt from taxes and duties though. If you spend between 24 and 48 hours, you get a customs allowance of $200. After 48 hours, this jumps to $800 per person.
