6 Travel Tips for When You’re in Tanzania

Tanzania is a treasure trove for adventurous travelers and is full of amazing places. You could be drawn by the great beaches of Zanzibar or the numerous game reserves and the safari. Whichever one you were attracted by, Tanzania like all other places has its good sides and bad sides and while travel tastes are varied and personal, there are still some general tips that can help with your Tanzanian vacation. We’ve put together about 6 of them here.

· Weather Information

Tanzania’s weather is divided into different seasons. For your travels, we’d suggest the dry seasons. Yes, they’re two of them. A short one and a longer one. The main dry season (The longer one) is from July to September and a visit during this period means warm clear days with blue skies. This is great for game viewing. There is also a shorter dry season from December to February. The rainy season lasts from March to May and occurs again briefly in October and November.

· Vaccinations

Apart from up to date general vaccinations like Polio and Tetanus, you’ll also need vaccinations against typhoid, hepatitis A & B, cholera, rabies, and yellow fever. Yellow fever, in particular, is a bit rampant in the area. For your Anti-malaria pills, remember that Tanzania is Chloroquine-resistant so discuss this with your doctor.

· Follow Rules

Stay safe by following park rules and regulations. Always listen to your guide. Stay in the safari vehicle at all times (unless you're told that it's safe to get out) and check your shoes for venomous spiders and scorpions before putting them on. Do not feed wild animals if they approach you at your campsite – you'll only be encouraging aggressive behavior if you do.

· Pack Light

This is only the most repeated rule of traveling worldwide! Carry at least one warm cover-up and a flashlight. Your hiking boots and your camera should be your heaviest items. We suggest keeping your luggage below a 20kg maximum weight.

· Carry A Big Lens

This is the only way to get those amazing photographs you’ll want from your trip. A big lens means a stunning close-up shot of real wildlife that could be hundreds of yards away from your vehicle. If you don’t have one you should consider renting or borrowing.

· Take Time

If you’re going to go all the way to Tanzania for your vacation, then we’d suggest you spend at least 2 weeks minimum. Don’t pack your schedule too tightly, take your time and explore. You’ll enjoy the experience much more this way.
