Don’t Take the Kids to Disney for Your Next Family Vacation

Disney’s a great vacation option, don’t get me wrong. There’s something magical about seeing all your favorite fairy tales come to life, and they do a great job at this.

But, there are so many other places you can take your kids to create amazing vacation memories.

I have fond memories of my first trip to Disney with my parents. I remember being enthralled by Cinderella’s castle, and by how pretty the princesses’ dresses were. But I also remember the moment when I realized it was all fake. One of the service doors was left ajar, and as curious child, I peeked in to see a very un-castle like storage closet. Once I realized the entire thing was a façade, it just wasn’t the same. And while I enjoyed the rides and the overall experience of those vacations, the magic was gone.

Why not show your kids (or grandkids) places where the magic is real?

Did you know that for about the same price as a trip to Disney World, you can take your kids on a wildlife adventure to the Galapagos Islands, where they’ll get the chance to get close to friendly sea lions and blue footed boobys?

Or if the beach is more your speed, what about an adventure in Puerto Rico? We took our niece and nephew there last year, and they absolutely loved exploring the rain forest and visiting the old Spanish colonial-era fort of El Morro. There’s nothing like seeing a real castle!

If you have a bigger budget, you can venture further afield and bring your kids on safari in Africa, or on a tour through the Medieval villages of Tuscany.

Instead of just entertaining your kids, why not help them grow through authentic travel experiences.

The best family vacations are customized for your family, include activities that will engage both the adults and the kids, and create memories you and they will treasure for a lifetime.
