As we always say, traveling is the kind of experience that can completely change your heart, your view on life, the way you treat people, and the way you perceive the world in its grand diversity and beauty.
Unfortunately, not all travel experiences are great experiences – and most of the time the unpleasant parts are caused by travelers not knowing how to stay safe while far from home.
How do you do that? How to stay safe when traveling solo, especially as a woman? We have some tips for you – so read on and find out more.
- Invest in better accommodations. It might feel that a hotel that’s far from the city center will save you money – but the sad truth is that it can also be less safe, especially if you have a long distance to go from the hotel to the main attractions. Our advice is to invest in a hotel that’s closer to the main points you want to visit – it might cost a little more, but it will help you feel safer (and thus, enjoy your trip more).
- Always keep two copies of your main paperwork with you – one copy in your wallet and the other one on the inside of your jacket or in your bag (provided that you don’t hold your wallet there too). This will help you stay safe in case one of your copies is stolen – copies aren’t the best way to do this, but they can still save you from a lot of trouble. Of course, as your travel agent we're only a phone call away if something happens and you need advice.
- Don’t carry a lot of cash on you. Try to only carry the absolute basic – most places around the world allow you to pay by credit card, so it’s probably best if you just use that as much as you can. If you can’t pay by credit card, make sure you don’t carry a lot of cash on you.
- Use common sense. This might come without saying, but common sense can keep you away from a lot of unpleasant situations. Talking to strangers, going to places that are not well-regarded in terms of safety, giving personal information to anyone you don’t actually know – these are a no-no you should definitely avoid doing when traveling (solo or not, really).
