Man at the airport: Here is our mini guide to safe european travelWe have all encountered, or have been, the people who would love to explore the world but are terrified to travel for a number of reasons. I’ve searched the web to find the top 4 best ways of overcoming the fear of travel. Here is our mini guide to safe European travel.

1) Plan Ahead

When it comes to traveling abroad, it is important to look at your options thoroughly. If you are nervous about going on a trip by yourself, booking a tour or an European river cruise is a great way to travel safe. River cruise companies plan everything for your, many times you don’t even have to move your luggage once it’s in the cabin. You can always find some amazing deals on certain cruise lines, and a travel agents can better assist you in any questions you may have.

2) Get Insured

Once you have creating your plan, buying travel insurance is the best way to ensure peace of mind on this fabulous trip. Do your research or talk to your travel agent about which company you should go with; some of the most recommended travel insurance companies are Allianz and Travel Safe.

Another important things to do is to keep emergency cash on hand, most people agree you should keep around $200-$500 dollars (USD). Depending on how long your trip is you may consider bring more or less. Keep this cash on your person using a money belt or something similar in order to prevent pick pockets.

3) Buy a Guidebook

Congratulations! You have booked your trip and have insurance on your trip, next it is time to learn more about the country (or countries) you will be visiting. Buying a travel guide is a great way to learn about the country’s culture, where to explore, and how to approach the natives of the country.

4) Learn the Language

It is also a good idea to learn a little bit of the native language, the basics of “hello” and “how much is this” can go a long way. Having a tour guide who speaks the native language can also help during your travels and can give you peace of mind knowing someone can translate for you. This is also a fantastic reason to travel in a group, you cannot get lost because the itinerary is already set for you.

By planning ahead and learning everything you can, you can decrease your stress levels and possibly your anxiety. Traveling is one of the most rewarding experiences, it allows you to explore culture in a light that no book or photograph can describe. Step out of your comfort zone and explore what the world has to offer! For more information on group travel download our free guide to European river cruises.
