Sipping Champagne in the Trees - An Evening At PerchingBar

perching_bar_insideOne of the highlights of my recent trip to Champagne, France was an evening champagne tasting at PerchingBar. PerchingBar is a tree house champagne bar located in the Montagne de Reims. We were hosted by the owner, Jean-Charles Florquin and were treated to a tasting of champagne from Champagne Pehu Simonet. The Pehu Simonet champagnes are made with Pinot Noir grapes from Grand Cru vineyards on the Montagne de Reims.

The bar is located inside a tree house, and to get to the bar you need to walk down a path into the woods and then up two rope suspension bridges. Jean-Charles gave us a safety briefing prior to letting us approach - no more than two persons on the bridge at one time. Walking on the bridge on the way in was not too difficult, but I can see how it might get a bit scary after a few glasses of champagne.

There is no kitchen, but for our event they brought in trays of hors d'oeuvres and miniature desserts which were served alongside champagne. They generally offer a small menu of cold appetizers along with many fine champagnes.

Jean-Charles has plans to develop a hotel on the property, which will allow you to spend the night among the tree tops.
